Port MacKenzie, AlaskaFibreco’s exports at Port MacKenzie are through a new port development under the control of the Alaskan Mat-Su Borough Assembly. It is located directly across from the Port of Anchorage in Cook Inlet. The basis for this new development is natural resources in the form of coal, natural gas, minerals, gravel, and forest products. Fibreco's supplier, NPI, LLC has secured the exclusive right to operate this port and wood chips are one of their priority projects. The first vessel was loaded in February 2005. There are two storage pads capable of storing 1 to 2 vessel loads of two different species, in particular, birch and spruce. The chips are loaded onto the vessel by slinger system and D4 bulldozers may be used to trim the hatches. Vessel loading occurs around the clock. Below are some pictures of the first vessel loaded at the berth, Keoyang Majesty, in February 2005. |
